A Note from the Editor

Coming into our own truth

It's a new day and this is a new chapter for GBMNews.com, a publication to and for the Black gay community, as it marches into the future with new ideas and different points of view. If nothing else, Chit Chat intends to be informative, enlightening, humorous, and up-to-the-minute with celebrity news and gossip, being truthful without being crude.

Generations dared not dream of a Black President, but like achieving that dream, GBMNews.com has now realized one part of its vision and through Chit Chat, messages of empowerment and encouragement, of faith, and of unconditional love are shared with you each month.

With the realizations of dreams on a national scale, we too are encouraged to strive for our own achievements, for our loved ones, and for others in our communities. Now we could reach for the stars and claim the one that's ours; we can learn to be good to each other instead of backbiting and killing each another – and in so doing remove from our vocabulary and thought processes all the embodiments of jealousy and envy; we need to become the support and strength for each other.

When I look in the mirror, I affirm that I'm proud to be born Black, male, and gay; I am not an error or a mistake because of my sexual orientation. But, because of who I am, I can add to the flavor of life.
Let’s inspire each other to be the best.

The 2009 Tour for Entertainer, Mr. Tony Enos

By Senior Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

When the owner and publisher of GBMNews asked to me to become the editor for "Chit Chat" magazine, GBMNews' offspring, we discussed who I would like to grace the cover of the first issue. Immediately I thought of singer, dancer, writer and producer, Mr. Tony Enos.

Since our first encounter, he and I have become fast friends. It's always a pleasure to interview him. If nothing else, it's a joy to be a part of his journey and he's a part of mine. Here's our recent "chit chat".

INTERVIEW
John: Tony, we have interviewed you a few times and you have become one of our GBMNews favorites. I understand that you're going on tour. When will your tour start?

Tony: Saturday, August 15th, opening night in Brooklyn, NY.

John: What cities will you tour?

Tony: Boston, New York, Philly, South Beach-Miami, D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago, Ohio, San Francisco, L.A. and Texas.

John: On your tour, how many background singers and dancers will you have?

Tony: It's a really big show, we are starting with two dancers and will end with four.

John: How long is your show?
Tony: It's a hour show.

John: During the tour, will you have some surprise guest?

Tony: We are opening in NY, Antonio Martinez, a recording artist who's from NY is my special guest. We are doing a cover from the second album. He can sing anything, he's super talented, however when he sings he reminds you of the Frank Sinatra era. He and I did a Frank Sinatra song for the album and I told him it would be nice if we did it for the show. It's only for opening night just for New York.

John: What makes this tour different than your past performances?

Tony: It's a bigger show, it's all songs from the new album with the exception of maybe two songs, I'm doing this tour with Michael Jackson in mind. I'm doing a tribute to Michael in the show, which I've never done before. Also the wardrobe for this show is really awesome. I'm doing about six quick changes, this show is bigger, better, more exciting but staying true to myself.

John: Do you have anything new coming out?

Tony: It's taken a while for this to come out, the second album deals with different issues such as situations with my father and issues with past relationships, adult things.

John: And when should we look for the CD?

Tony: At the end of the summer, the CD is called "Did It Rite", which is the title and opening track. This album talks about sexual and other life experiences then at the end of the CD there's a track called, "I Did It Right", which talks about spiritually, faith that sort of thing.

John: With the economy do you find that your audience is in less attendance?

Tony: I don't feel that there's less attendance. (He continued his thought, expressing how difficult it has become to get financial backing etc. but this has no reflection on his performance. It's all about the audience, the fans, giving them 100% of himself.)

John: I can tell from your show that you have been influenced by Ms. Janet Jackson and also her beloved brother, Michael Jackson. What affect did Mr. Michael Jackson have on you as a performer?

Tony: When you look at him, he's the ultimate performer. He is what everybody, including Janet, inspires to be. He really ushered in a new age, a new wave of a performer. From the way he put the show together, the dance aspect, his writing, the way he's been able to express his feelings for the world and for the environment, its just really incredible, it's funny because it wasn't until I got a little older and started writing and then with his passing, I sat back and listened to his lyrics….. I can't think of him in the past tense and I never will, he will always be alive to me. (Just in that moment, I could feel his sense of sadness and loss) He's influenced me in every way imaginable.

John: Tony, you have been compared musically to Janet Jackson, has she been an inspiration to you and if so, how?

Tony: She's been a huge inspiration for me. I looked at her and say wow, she's not afraid. Everyone told me that I should write my own music, I hated it when others told me to do this, when I was younger, but now I love it. I've been writing my own music since the age of 13. I love when others say that they like and feel my music, I love that, I wouldn't have it any other way. So she helped me come into my own. She did for me, what I hope that I can do for others, which is to say that you are ok.

John: Tony, your music is a mixture of pop, R&B and the re-mixes are more club, will you release any house music for that kind of audience?

Tony: I do actually, its funny because this album is a super, real pop product, that's why some of the cuts are going to be Baltimore house mixed cause when I'm on the dance floor I want to dance!

John: Why should your fans, old and new, come out to support you on your tour?

Tony: That's a good question. (He pulsed for a second to collect his thoughts) It's really a show for the fans. Fans questioned when am I coming to their city, I finally I have the change to be with them (the fans). I do this because I have something that I want to share (with his audience).

John: Tony, the GBMNews family and fan base are aware of your talents and have watched you grow as performer, what has been the nicest thing that a fan has said to you?

Tony: I get a chill talking it, I received a letter from a guy in Iraq who said that he can't wait to get out of that hell hole, to come home to see me perform, that he works out to my song, "Work It Out", everyday. When I read the letter, I started to cry. I called my mother immediately and read it to her over the phone. We both cried on the phone, it was so moving. This person connected to me, way across the world. That was so special, incredible to me.

John: Tony, your stage image is explosive and sexual and I'm sure the response has been positive as well as negative, is this image something that you created or is it natural?

Tony: It's something that's so natural. I could change a few things but then I would be selling people a lot of b.s. I'm "real" minded. You will always know what I'm thinking, on and off the stage, 100% of the time.

John: Are you nervous about tour?

Tony: Not at all, I'm so excited. I'm always afraid that I might forgot the lyrics, but once I'm out there something else takes over.

John: Beyonce has Sasha, do you have a different personality?

Tony:(laughing) I use to say no, but yes.

John: What's his name?

Tony: My real name is Anthony, Anthony's that down home Philly boy.

John: So Tony is Sasha?

Tony: Tony is what you get on stage, the sex, the performer. People in the street have started to called me "T". It feels good sometimes when I'm at home to hear my family and friends call my name, Anthony.

John: Are you excited about Whitney Houston returning?

Tony: I am, I heard two tracks from the album, I'm glad she's back, she's a top talent, she belongs at the top.

John: After your tour, are you going on vacation?

Tony: (laughing) I will probably move on to the next gig.

John: Tony your shows are high energy, at the end of a concert/performance, how do you come down from that musical high? What do you do?

Tony: I take a long hot shower because I'm soaked and nasty. That hot shower is my saving grace.

John: Do you have any plans of touring in Europe?

Tony: Yes! But I don't have any dates yet. (All I can say is, "Look out Europe!!! Many of our American entertainers, such as Donna Summer, Grace Jones, had to go overseas before they were appreciated at home, here in the States.)

John: What would you like to say to your fans?

Tony: I love them, I need them and I'm grateful for their support.

As always it was a pleasure to speak with Mr. Tony Enos. We wish him continued success.

Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand to Record Duet?

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

According to Media Man "Village Voice", diva, Mr. Michael Musto, it's rumored that jazz diva, Diana Krall is writing a song for diva's, Ms. Barbra Streisand and Ms. Diana Ross. Yes, to record together.
For years I've wondered why Ms. Streisand and Ms. Franklin didn't record. If you are a Streisand fan, you know that she can really blow. The soul of Ms. Streisand can not be touched. She has a recording, the late Ray Charles hit, "It's Crying Time Again", that I've played for friends who thought that it was Aretha. Later Ms. Streisand did it live with Mr. Charles, but it's the studio solo recording, that's a must to hear.

Now many are probably wondering if Ms. Ross can sing with Ms. Streisand? And the answer is yes, of course. I feel that lyricist and composer, Denise Rich would be excellent for this project. There's a song that Ms. Ross recorded on her "Everyday Is a New Day" CD, titled, "Until We Met Again". It's the kind of song that's perfect for both, Ms. Ross and Ms. Streisand. If you are indeed, a real, Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand fan, you will totally get what I'm talking about. And yes, let's not forget great song writer, Ms. Carole Bayer Sager. It's a classic waiting to happen.

Back in the day, it was reported that when Ms. Streisand and Ms. Donna Summer recorded, disco hit, "Enough Is Enough", that Ms. Summer passed out, when the both of them were singing, the word, "tear". When Ms. Summer woke up, Ms. Streisand was still holding that note. After she asked Donna, "Are you alright?"

Now Ms. Ross and Ms. Streisand have mellowed and don't have anything to prove. The both of them are forever legendary. A complete CD, I'm not sure would work, but Ms. Ross hasn't done a "duet" CD yet. Maybe she can record with Ms. Barbra and 13, 14 other of her favorite famous friends like, Dionne Warwick, Donna Summer and throw in Ne-yo and some of the current hit makers.

In any event, we will have to wait and see if the rumor is true. Sometimes that's truth to a rumor, I hope this is the case with this one.

Chit Chat with Giles Marini

By Alan Mercer

Gilles Marini burst into the main stream consciousness with his portrayal of Dante in the "Sex and the City" movie last year. This year he follows that auspicious debut with an even larger audience as he begins his run on the hit ABC Television show "Dancing With The Stars".

I had a chance to talk to Gilles about his experience so far. He showed me a few dance moves and since I 'happen' to have my camera with me…. I captured the moments. Gilles is one of the coolest people I have ever met.

He is a natural athlete, a charming actor, and a devoted husband and father. The former baker from the south of France, with the dashing good looks, is about to become a household name.

INTERVIEW

Alan Mercer: How did you get on Dancing with the Stars?

Gilles Marini: I got a phone call from my manager telling me the DWTS people just called. I want you to consider it. I said I will get back to you. I called a friend and talked and after seeing my little two year old daughter always wearing a pink tutu, I decided it would be the thing to do, also for her to be able to say, later on in life, that my daddy did that show. She can have the DVD and see for herself.

Alan Mercer: So you are doing it for your daughter?

Gilles Marini: I also think it is great for me to do it and a great opportunity for the American people to know me better because it comes down to twenty million people a week watching it! Beautiful! So I said yes and all of a sudden I was in a meeting. A month and a half later they offered me the opportunity so I went and signed the papers and the next thing you know I am rehearsing with Cheryl Burke.

Alan Mercer: Can you believe that?!? Did they tell you your partner would be Cheryl?

Gilles Marini: They told me it would be a surprise because they want to catch it on camera. They tape everything. Then one day they said you are going to meet your partner and I got in the room and I saw Cheryl and they said this is your partner. I got so excited because she was the one I wanted to dance with and later that day we were already rehearsing. I realized it was much harder than I thought. I saw Jerry Springer do it and he does pretty well. If he does it, I should do it. Then I had a reality check!

Alan Mercer: It looks REALLY hard to me!
Gilles Marini: It is hard. Hopefully I will pull through it. I've already hurt my knees and had a couple of injuries, but I have to work through it by show time.

Alan Mercer: When do you dance on TV for the first time?
Gilles Marini: Monday night March 9, 2009.
Alan Mercer: This is so exciting!
Gilles Marini: Yeah for you….AWESOME. I'm the one inside going, 'Oh if I let her drop…oh my God! I think I will be very excited after the show. To say OK it's done. I think the first show must be the hardest. I thought about, please do not vomit or do not faint and everything should be good. Don't forget your steps, go with the flow and it's all good. So we'll see what happens with it.
Alan Mercer: Does being an athlete help?
Gilles Marini: No. I thought it would help, but it really does not in the sense that you have to learn a new skill. Maybe you are not an athlete but you can REMEMBER choreography in a second. So you may be better off that way.

Alan Mercer: You do consider yourself an athlete?
Gilles Marini: I am an athlete I think. I have three titles in three different places. Where does my athleticism help me there? No where. I am using muscles I have never used before. It's like I've never done anything athletic before.

Alan Mercer: How are you getting through it?
Gilles Marini: Dancing is very difficult, but somehow after you have started doing it and you have nailed the choreography, you go, this is awesome. It's an adrenaline shot, like surfing the wave, I want to go three times a week and learn new things. It's really nice.

Alan Mercer: Will you continue dancing when this is over?
Gilles Marini: I would love too. Seriously I would love too. Maybe I will teach my wife a couple of steps. She doesn't dance but……..she can really move.

Alan Mercer: Are you ready to be this famous?
Gilles Marini: It never really strikes me as oh my God being famous would be so different. I'm not eighteen anymore, I am a thirty three year old man who has children and a wife and a lot of responsibilities. Being famous is just a part of the job.

Alan Mercer: How do you feel about your fans?
Gilles Marini: The people who want a signed picture or want a two minute conversation and a photo with me might take some time away from a personal life but that is also the name of the game. Without those people you are absolutely nothing.

Alan Mercer: So how will you handle it?
Gilles Marini: You have to hang in there and enjoy every step of the way. If you find you don't like the job then move away, go back to your old life. I could go back to being a baker. I don't know what to say. Being famous is just part of the business. Hopefully I will be famous enough for the people to say we love all he does.

Stage Play, "Chicago" gets Destiny's Child's, Michelle Williams

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

Ms. Michelle Williams, 28, of the girl group, "Destiny's Child", graced us with her presence on the stage in the play, "Chicago" in London's West End in July 2009 at the Cambridge Theater, as the role of Rokie Hart. Plus she has a new CD out called, "Unexpected". The interesting thing is that it appears that everything she touches is unexpected and surprisingly wonderful.

Now this little lady with the big talent has performed in other plays such as in Elton John's "Aida" and "Oprah's", the Color Purple's as Suge Avery in the tour production. Also she's recorded a few gospel CD's and has decided to change lanes with her new project, which is great for lovers of dancing, partying and having a good time.

When asked about her current CD, she had this to say:

"There are still a lot of people who don't even know that this album is not a gospel record, even though I'm on a half-naked boy in my video," she said at the time. "Maybe I am required to work harder than others, and that's okay, because God doesn't put any more on me than I can bear. Maybe I do have to just push through and get people to accept my music. It's gonna be hard, because I started out doing gospel and people aren't used to that."

So while she's in Europe, she will be promoting her CD as well. I have a feeling that Ms. Williams is going to have a busy yet exciting summer 2009. And lets not forget, many of her fans were able to see her on RuPaul's reality series, "Drag Race".

Girlfriend has tapped into her gay following through "Destiny's Child" and her solo projects, unconditionally and with love. You go, girl!

The Boy Who Would Be Queen

Commentary by Robert Jones Jr.

There is an unnecessary controversy brewing over some recent photographs that have surfaced depicting triple-threat performer Drake in "compromising" positions with other men. This has led numerous sources to speculate that Drake might be gay. The photos are, in my opinion, indicative of nothing of the sort. At the very least, they do not depict any unusual between the men: an arm around the shoulder, a bit of frat-boy daring for the camera; in other words, boys simply being boys (inherent homoeroticism notwithstanding).

Whenever a man is "accused" of being gay (and I'm loath to use the word "accused" because it seems to imply one needing to defend one's self rigorously against something untoward and deplorable; I hold that there's absolutely nothing wrong with being gay, therefore there's nothing to defend one's self against) he's forced, no doubt due to a social instruction informed by false notions of masculinity, to address the matter in a way that puts all the mainstream minds at ease and assures them that all is straight with the world.

The unspoken arrangement seems to go something like this: Heterosexuality is, by default, a public matter: double dates, prom dates, co-habitation, engagements, weddings, and honeymoons are just a few of the ways in which heterosexuals announce their relationships (and therefore, their sexual preference) to the entire world. Homosexuality, however, is relegated to the private sphere.

That is to say, homosexuals are expected to keep completely silent (or be completely dishonest) about who we're dating, who we're living with, who we're sleeping with, who we love lest we offend the public proper, because (*nudge-nudge wink-wink*) we all know that homosexuality is depraved, disgusting, abnormal and immoral, and we homosexuals should be lucky that we're even allowed to exist much less damage the collective psyche and pervert the minds of children by being open and honest about who we are.

Much of this mentality has seeped into the consciousness of even those who consider themselves the most decent, upstanding individuals. But most sadly, it’s worked its way into the minds of many gay men.

Many of us operate out of fear: fear of being discovered, fear of disappointing friends and family, fear of losing our jobs, fear of being ostracized, fear of divine retribution, fear of becoming victims of violence and murder, and fear that religious sociopaths are correct in their insane assertion that we are indeed demons personified. We’ve become complicit in obstructing our own freedom and perpetuating the ferocious injustices designed to keep us as second-class citizens at best, and sub-human deviants at worst. Homophobes and heterosexists get to maintain their smug and comfortable lives with their dangerous illusions left intact, and homosexuals get to wallow in a deep and abiding shame, certain of only this one thing: not even God could love us.

We've become complicit in obstructing our own freedom and perpetuating the ferocious injustices designed to keep us as second-class citizens at best, and sub-human deviants at worst. Homophobes and heterosexists get to maintain their smug and comfortable lives with their dangerous illusions left intact, and homosexuals get to wallow in a deep and abiding shame, certain of only this one thing: not even God could love us.

So when we're confronted about our sexual preference-no matter how butch or fem we are, no matter how stealthy or obvious, even if we've been "caught in the act"-we answer in the way that we've been trained to answer: with falsehoods. Remarkably, and probably due to the fact that we sense, in our very DNA, that there is something deeply troubling about the deception, we won't always answer the question directly. No politician could match the mental and verbal choreography we display when devising our responses:
Johnny Gill has broken his silence concerning the rumors about his “friendship” with Eddie Murphy.

On Friday November 11th (in a phone interview with Patty Jackson of WDAS), Johnny confirmed that he is “100% all man” and “there’s nothing that another man can do for Johnny Gill.” He also went on to say, “As long as you’re secure and you know who you are, you can’t worry about what other people say.”

Johnny also claims that this picture which has been circulating the net for about a week, was some how altered. What about this this picture though? Who ever did that photoshop job is good as hell. Furthermore, aren’t all MEN (gay or straight) 100% men??

Source link

What does Gill's statement really mean?

Sometimes, we convince ourselves that answering in the negative is the truthful response. We tell ourselves that "gay" means something other than how we think of ourselves or our desires. "Gay," we say, "is going out, partying, clubbing, carrying on and injecting ourselves into the (largely white) 'gay lifestyle.' Gay isn't sex, it's romance; it's love. So long as I hold myself separate from that rambunctious, flamboyant and offensive community, as long as I never enter into anything romantic or loving with another man, I'm not really gay."

Other times, we self-medicate. We drink and drug ourselves into blindness and amnesia, assured that what we cannot see and what we cannot remember we cannot be. Or, we act contrary to our very own nature, force ourselves into relationships with the opposite sex in hopes of proving our viability as "normal" human beings. We lay down with her, but to be aroused we must imagine him, thus ensuring the eventual destruction of two lives instead of one. These games of semantics we play to in order to maintain our sanity and our existence often end up costing us both.

For it escapes us that by "gay," the mainstream

means any man who has any kind of sexual relations, whether in the light or in the dark, with someone else of the same sex.

Heterosexists and homophobes don't feel the need to dice us up into categories that afford us safety against the stigma of being labeled a "faggot."

They don't care if we're drunk or high when we do it, or whether or not we're wearing the most normal drag in our closets at the moment it happens, or if we're camouflaged with a wife and kids. To them, we're all faggots: the tranny in red pumps, the discreet dude in sagging jeans, and the husband sucking anonymous d**k in the park. We're all faggots and we all deserve to die.

If we happen to be faggots and persons of color, multiply all of that hostility by two because in this case, we must also contend-and very, very closely-with the power and sway of religious institutions. Religious institutions in the main and the black religious institutions in particular, provide solace for people who feel largely powerless in their lives by placing some Other on the altar for sacrifice and consumption.

Gays are the Other du jour, giving blacks the basis to assert, "I may be black, but at least I'm not gay!" in a society that really despises both, but pretends to loathe one more than the other. Poverty galvanizes black rage, and rage, like an arrow, always needs a target. Walk into almost any place of worship anywhere in the world and discover that the fervent believers and casual attendees alike are thoroughly convinced that "gay rights" is a synonym for "The Apocalypse"; and that the granting of the former will absolutely ensure the latter.

That some of us have survived all of this relatively unscathed is nothing short of miraculous. That there are some of us who still speak honestly and openly about our lives or refuse to hide or cannot hide or dare to love in the midst of it all is the most salient demonstration of courage I've ever seen. Indeed, it's no small feat to withstand the God of Eternal Threats, Torture and Punishment. It's an even greater accomplishment to endure his followers. If that isn't a testament to strength, resilience and grace, then I don't know what is.

It's into this tumultuous, highly-dysfunctional world-unassailable in its ignorance, unfounded in its righteousness, exceeded in its hatred only by its bloodlust-that Drake, a young, bi-racial (read: black) man, finds himself thrown.

There are the photos which some believe allude to a less-than-wholesome aspect of his sexuality; there's his cryptic response to them.

And then there's us: heterosexists and homophobes who crave someone at whom aspersions can be cast, to whom a cross can be affixed; and homosexuals bubbling with wish-fulfillment and needing to be confirmed by any see-he's-gay-too so-it must be-okay poster boy that can be exhumed from the ruins.

It's this perpetual adolescent pathology that prevents us from seeing the beauty and complexity of the world in which we live and the beauty and complexity within ourselves. When our childishness interferes, we aren't able or aren't willing to see each other-with adult eyes-for who we are really. And our greatest failure occurs when we deny ourselves the opportunity for a closer inspection which would reveal that what we believed was a crown on the boy's head was actually a tiara all along.

And I say we should let him wear it.

"Don't Lose The Feeling", Ms. Beverly Johnson

"Don't Lose The Feeling", Ms. Beverly Johnson
By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

For those of you who know me or perhaps getting to know me, the one thing that I love is music. I was going through my record collection and came across a LP, with Ms. Beverly Johnson on the cover. I jumped up and down, thank God no one lives below me and its 2:30 am. But its one of those nights when you reflect. With "gay pride" coming up, I can't help but reflect, so I went to my record shelves, that's when I found this treasure in my hands.

On the cover, she's dressed in a wonderful gold jumpsuit, and she's looking straight into the camera, doing that thing that Tyra's always talking about, "Make your eyes smile." Well Ms. Johnson is doing just that.

The list of songs is not like its today, where artist will release a 14- 15 - 16 songs on my CD and that will last for at least two years of mixing, remixing, special editions etc., back in the day, the artist would record only 7 or 8 on each album. Ms. Johnson picked some interesting songs, as such Mick Jaguar's "Under My Thumb" and Ms. Nancy Sinatra's, "These Boots Are Made For Walking". But for the most part it was a "chill out", album. With the right remixing and videos, if her album were done today, that's no telling what the success could be.

It's a new day, but I must go back and celebrate the success of Ms. Beverly Johnson.

The beautiful business woman was born on October 13, 1952. Ms. Johnson made history as she became the first Vogue cover (in America) paving the way for today's top models and former models, such as Ms. Campbell and Ms. Banks.

Ms. Johnson was born in a middle class family in Buffalo, NY. In later years friends told her that she should be a model, she went after it and was quickly assigned to appear in "Glamour" fashion magazine 1974. Before long she had appeared on more than five hundred covers. When you goggle the legend, Ms. Johnson, I was amazed of her life's journey. She's done movies, written books and has done some television. Now understand that Ms. Johnson may throw her hat into the ring and be a part of a reality series, "She Got The Look" which is on the TV Land channel.

Vanessa Williams and model Beverly Johnson
Ms. Johnson was honored for her accomplishments at the Oprah's Legend's Ball and will go down in history as the first, number one. Besides being the first for "Vogue". she was named, by the New York Times, to be one of the 20th Century's most influence in fashion. As we look back again, in 1979, Ms. Johnson was signed on as a recording for Arista Records, yes the same Arista Records that signed Ms. Whitney Houston a few years later.

What I'm impressed with, is some of the people that sang background vocals for Ms. Johnson, as Ms. Bette Wright (Clean Up Woman & Where Is The Love? Fame) and a special thank you to Wanda Hutchinson of sister, group, "The Emotions". I would have loved to have been presence in that conversation. Perhaps the vocal's weren't Ms. Houston sounding, the beautiful of this woman, this lady. She even had the gay boys second guessing themselves. Ms. Johnson's success, at that time, was equal to Ms. Tara Banks.

The LP cover of "Don't Lose The Feeling" the photo was taken by fame photographer, Bette Wright produced, Hair Stylist: Andre Douglas and Ronnie Grant. I stand corrected, the LP was marketed & distributed by Arista, but the label was "Buddah". Don't want to have anyone reading me.

Now its been a long time since I've listened to treasured LP. Mmm, how much would I get for it on E-bay? Nah, just kidding with that, however, LP is in good condition, almost mint, so I played it on my turntable. And you know what, it wasn't a bad album, especially if you compare it to some of today's artist.

I can't stop looking at the cover, such a beautiful lady.

"Instinct Magazine" Interviews Director, Actor, Dwight O'Neal

"Instinct Magazine" Interviews Director, Actor, Dwight O'Neal
In May 2009 Issue

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

At first glance at mega talent, Dwight O'Neal, he looks like a young kid, barely 18 years old but once you speak to him, you become aware that this brother is on a mission, he's wise beyond his years, he's driven and he's going to make it happen.
Many of you may recall that I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. O'Neal, not once but twice. Now in the May 2009 of Instinct Magazine, this is what he had to say:

INTERVIEW

Instinct: Give us a glimpse of your entertainment industry resume, please.
O'Neal: Call me a Renaissance Man-fashion, writing, producing, directing, modeling, acting, singing, dancing, rapping, hosting, promoting!

Instinct: Whew! Your most recent venture is Christopher Street: The Series.
O'Neal: I was inspired to create it to showcase positive role models for the young LGBT community. When I was growing up, I did not have an openly gay person to admire or seek advice from. My characters are great examples of why many of us move to the Big Apple-to reinvent themselves in pursuit of their true happiness.

Instinct: Was your show inspired a little by another four-friends-in-NYC series?
O'Neal: Sex in the City was definitely a huge inspiration for my baby, but I'd say Christopher Street is the young, gay 90210, with a pinch more of comedy. Christopher Street is the title character who holds within him every characteristic that the infamous street in NYC possesses. As for Jharemy (the drama queen), Ashton (the quiet one) and Shawn (the diva), they keep "Street" from becoming a maniac. I mean, with so many characteristics, a guy could go insane. [Laughs]
Instinct: Tell us, as a Southern boy turned New Yorker: who really took Manhattan: Jason or the Muppets?
O'Neal: The Muppets! They are far more powerful by ruling with sweetness and kindness. So much of pop and LGBT culture seems dominated by white faces. In the past, LGBT of color have not always been given equal representation, and when we have, it's not always in a positive light. With Christopher Street, I want to tell the good, the bad and-most importantly-the funny.

Instinct: Noah's Arc is the only major program I can think of that really focused on what it means to be an LGBT person of color, and now Christopher Street is carrying the torch. What advice do you have for aspiring LGBT creators of color?
O'Neal: All things are possible. Just hang in there and know that you can have whatever you truly desire. Ask, believe and receive.

Instinct: What's the most fun thing about creating, writing and producing your own show?
O'Neal: I always get to decide how hot my character's boyfriends are! [Laughs]

Instinct: Tell me about the "Beyond The Street" tour-the HIV/AIDS charity work you are spearheading that's tied into the show.
O'Neal: The tour allows me to talk to people about self-love, which I think is the cure for everything. With love, we can conquer the world. On the tour, we go beyond the TV screen and we enter the world of our audience members to talk to them about the issues the series deals with. One major talking point is about one of our primary characters being diagnosed HIV-positive-we talk about what he is dealing with and how his life is changed in a matter of seconds. We also take feedback from the audience, and we offer them the chance to be tested with a health care specialist.

Instinct: Who's your dream guest star?
O'Neal: I would love to have Lynn Whitfield on as one of the character's mother. I had the opportunity to show her my trailer and she gave me great feedback. The actor who plays my title character, Jared DeWese, was in tears, because he has idolized her for years. She is an amazing, beautiful actress.

Instinct: What TV show has you obsessed?
O'Neal: I have always been a huge fan of Bewitched. My mother loved it, and when growing up, I watched it with her. I wish I could twitch my little nose and make whatever I wanted happen-let's just say that Paul Walker, Shemar Moore or Reggie Bush would be right here with me answering these questions! [Laughs]

Instinct: Your goal is to inspire LGBT people all over the world, but who inspires you?
O'Neal: My mother. She has supported me in everything that I do. Growing up, I watched her have unconditional love and a forgiving heart toward all. When I was 3, I told her while watching The Cosby Show that when I grew up, I wanted to live in the TV. [Laughs]

Instinct: How can people see the show?
O'Neal: We are being screened at Prides and film festivals through the entire summer. DVDs are going to be available online on September 5, 2009. My website gets close to a two thousand hits per day, which is insane! Each day, someone is emailing me about what is hot on the "Street!"

Now for our loyal readers, remember when I told you to keep a "look out" for this brother. He's about making things happen.

"Christopher Street" is now available in  DVD. Lets support one another. Lets make this a mega success.

Michael Jackson's Video Girl, Ola Ray Sues

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

According to "Black Voice's" the young lady who was featured in the Michael Jackson' Thriller video is suing for royalties not received.

Now the interesting thing according to the "Michael Jackson" fan club, is back in 2007, Ms. Ola Ray had this to say:

"I remember that day like it was yesterday. I am so excited that people are still talking about it, still remembering it."

She's also quoted as saying, "I didn't know that I was going to be a part of history, but that is the way it turned out. I'm thankful."

Ola Ray said she wanted to apologize to Michael Jackson because for a long time she thought he failed to pay her for her role in the video. But since then she discovered someone else was holding back her money. For the future, Ray plans to come out with a book and start a music career of her own. Per the Michael Jackson Fan Club.

What changed Ms. Ray's mind? Perhaps she's in need of money. Is she looking for another 15 minutes of fame? I remember the first time I saw Ms. Ray in the Thriller, I just knew that we, the public, would be hearing a lot more on the once talented beautiful lady. Maybe during the "Thriller" event, she could have picked and chose her path of success. Thriller was about 26 - 27 years ago. Now to be fair, Ms. Ray has an impressive bio, as she's appeared in quite a few movies and television shows.

Ms. Ray was born on August 26, 1960 in St. Louis , Missouri. She was 22 years old when she won the "Thriller" part. This is what she said after winning the part:

"The minute I walked into the audition I knew it was mine," she says. "I read a few lines, danced to some music and the rest is history." "It helped that I was crazy about Michael and he seemed taken by the fact I was a Playboy model." "Everyone thinks I made millions but I don't care... I wouldn't change anything."

Ms. Ray has had her demons as in 1992 she was arrested for cocaine drugs. Now she's back, suing Mr. Jackson.

Her attorney, Jason Feldman, told the NYC's, Daily News, "She just wants to get her fair share of payments from this extremely successful project that she's very proud of," "She did receive some payments early on, but we don't believe they were complete, and they were never timely."

Mr. Jackson's camp claim that Ms. Ray was paid an undisclosed amount through the Screen Actors Guild in 1998. Now the question is what happened? Is she due more money? What happened to her book? And who would be interested in reading her book? Her claim to fame is being Michael Jackson's girlfriend in mega hit, "Thriller" and being arrested for cocaine. She also did the Playboy spread and a few small parts in some movies. I don't know.

Stay tuned.

On the Music Corner

By Entertainment Correspondent, John Frazier

  MUSIC CORNER

Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger, mmm this is interesting. Haven't we seen this before? First the group, then the lead singer is focused upon and the back-group singers become invisible. I can remember when this happened with Diana Ross and The Supremes and it also happened to Destiny's Child. Now I know the group remained Destiny's Child, but everyone concentrated on Ms. Beyonce.

Now its happening to the Pussycat Dolls, a group that I thought would be a "one hit wonder", but to my surprise and to the surprise of many, these ladies can really sing. Beauty and talent.

With the release of their single, "Hush" "Hush" "Hush" Hush", its now labeled "The Pussycat Dolls featuring Nicole Scherzinger". There is the "Hush" Mash up- and the 2nd is the CD, original recording. But then that depends on which release you purchase, there's been another release of "Hush" which has a few remixes, this might be the one to satisfy your dancing needs. Click here to view.

By the way, what happened to Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child joining the "Pussycats?"
Kelly Rowland has been a busy young lady, as she's featured on "When Love Takes Over" the David Guetta club release. Just in time for summer and its heat.

The CD single has 7 different cuts, starting off with the 3:09 minute original, # 2 is 3:00 minutes of the electro radio edit, the 3rd is fierce the extended electro 8:22 mix.

The clubs are going to love this.

The 4th, 6:05 minutes for the "laidback" luke crowd, whatever that means. The number 5, 7:10 minutes of the Norman Doray & Arno Cost Remix.

The 6th, the Abel Ramos Paris with Love mix, # 6 and by # 7, the Albin Myers Remix, you will have worked yourself out of your clothes caused by sweat of unique club beats.

About David Guetta, according to his bio: From his first pioneering house single, "Up 1 Way", back in his native Paris, France in 1992 to the much-awaiting upcoming release of his new album later this year, he has been France's # 1 DJ for a decade, is now an international star whose name is synonymous with the world's greatest house and dance music and the sets and parties that bring that music to life. DJ, solo recording artist, producer and half of the planet's most sought-after dance party organizers, his career has pursed an upward arc that just keeps rising.

David Guetta has sold over 2 million albums worldwide and over 3.2 million singles in his career. As the world's no. 1 House DJ 2008, he is a fixture year after year on DJ Mag's top 100 DJ's list, was also named DJ of the year at London's House Music Awards.

Now I have no idea how he hooked up with Ms. Kelly Rowland, but the duo are HOT and this is a profound way for Ms. Rowland to distance herself from her "Destiny's Child", Beyonce connection.

For the first time she has her own voice. Carry on Ms. Rowland and Mr. Guetta, I have a feeling that as "Love Takes Over, you two are going to own the dance club musically for Summer 2009. Just get the club kids, "the children" as we called ourselves back in the day, behind you and you can't fail. As you can tell, I love it!

Check it out for yourself, click here: www.davidguetta.com

But we can't get away from girl groups, here's another, that's rotating in a completely different new direction. Introducing the Paradiso Girls. The ladies are from different places around the world. Paradiso Girls who are Aria (France), Chelsea (United States), Kelly (Barbados), Lauren (England) and Shar (Phillippines). As per the groups bio, this group is beyond with a multicultural twist, Paradiso Girls boast three lead singers, a rapper and a D.J.

At first listen, you are reminded of girl group, TLC, then the Pussycat Dolls and also girl duo, "Salt and Pepper" and platinum rapper, Lil Jon is featured guest. The sound is current with a great blend of hip hop, R&B, Pop, some African rhythms, and for the boys and girls, gay and straight, the sisters are eye candy delicious. The singles has various mixes, including a club mix. The debut CD, "Crazy Horse" is soon to be released. Keep an eye or should I say, keep your listening ears on, the sisters are about to blow-up. Watch out Pussycat Dolls there's a new sheriff in town. But I have a feeling that there's enough room for everyone. Meow.

THE BRITISH ARE TAKING OVER, INTRODUCING "LITTLE BOOTS"

On June 9, 2009, there released of recording artist, "Little Boots" (yes that's her name) first CD, titled, "Illuminations". This will on Elektra Records.

I was lucky enough to hear a few cuts, and I must say, that she has a great voice. She doesn't sound anyone else, no one to compare her to. The music is great as the dance clubs (the mostly white clubs) will love her and so will the DJ's. Now before I get mail, stating that I don't really know this artist, the truth is that I don't. I'm only going on what I've heard. If you are a "house-music" lover, this CD is not for you.

According to her bio: Little Boots - known to her friends and family as Victoria Hesketh - will herald the release of "ILLUMINATIONS" with a very special U.S. live performance. The one-night-only event is slated for New York City's Le Poisson Rouge on Monday, May 18th. An additional series of North American dates will be announced shortly.

Little Boots is without question the most talked-about new UK pop star of the year. The Blackpool-born Hesketh first captured attention as a member of electro-indie combo Dead Disco. Opting to pursue a solo career as Little Boots, she assembled an arsenal of synths and began airing her developing work on YouTube for all to see.

Despite not yet having a proper single to her name, Little Boots came in at #1 on the BBC's influential "Sound of 2009" survey, a sentiment uniformly agreed upon by most every other British media outlet. And no wonder - tracks like "Stuck On Repeat" and the limited edition debut club pounder, "Meddle," are imaginative and intense, with melancholic tension and an effortless way with hooks.

Here in the U.S., Little Boots has already drawn unprecedented acclaim for an artist yet to release a debut album. "(Hesketh) writes exquisitely constructed pop songs so innately appealing," wrote New York Magazine, "you're certain you danced to them at your prom." "Little Boots strapped on glittery frocks and blew away the crowd at Perez Hilton's party with her super-catchy futuristic disco," raved Rolling Stone in its coverage of this year's South By Southwest extravaganza. In addition, Hesketh recently made her U.S. television debut as the sole guest on an installment of NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly.

Even though I can't imagine myself dancing to this music, since I love "house-music", the voice and lyrics are great. It's a style of music that you will have to hear for yourself. "Quicksand", recording artist, LaRoux
When I first received this CD single and played it, I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. It's not really pop, dance and definitely not, soul music. But then I heard the remix and I think liked it but you be the judge

Electric Red

"How to Be A Lady" the new release from, yes, another girl group that you're probably already heard of, Electric Red.

Now these girls are straight out from the hood, ghetto. The CD is titled on how to be a lady yet there's a parental advisory explicit content label. Lil Wayne is on this one. Looks like the little guys are getting a lot of play. "Drink In My Cup", mmm, doesn't sound so lady like to me, but then they didn't say what kind of lady. Perhaps my definition is a little different, but that's what makes the world go around.

ROUND UP
Oscar and Grammy award winner, Ms. Jennifer Hudson, gave birth to a darling baby boy, named David after his father. All 3 are said to be doing fine.
The long awaited CD from Ms. Whitney Houston was released on August 31. I hope the diva hasn't destroyed her God-given voice. If you compare Ms. Houston's voice to her mother's, Ms. Cissy Houston, and her first cousin's, Ms. Dionne Warwick, their voices were best in the fabulous 40's. Ms. Nippy, we are hoping and praying that your voice will stand the test of time. There's a link that has Ms. Whitney singing in live performance in Kazakhstan, July 08, and it wasn't pretty and the Central Park performance was indeed, sad, however, if you saw Ms. Houston on Oprah, she was great and looked beautiful! I have a feeling that things will only get better. Hopefully there's a difference a year later.
Many may remember that when Ms. Natalie Cole had her situation, her voice was not at it's best, but when she did the "Unforgettable" CD, her voice had returned in full force. By the way, Ms. Cole is doing well after her kidney transplant operation. Lets keep her in our prayers. She's got a whole lot more of living and giving to do. We love you, Natalie.
Speaking of Whitney news, Mr. Bobby Brown is a father again for the 5th time, not that anyone cares, but just in case you do.
The African beauty, Ms. Sade, is said to be in the studio, working on a new CD. Hopefully its as successful as her other CD's. You know Ms. Anita Baker stepped out of the spotlight, and upon her return, the music industry has changed. I'm sure the record sales are totally different than when she was at the top of her game. However, I have total respect for her, as it was more important to stay at home and be a wife and mother. Now she's back and doing it her own way.

New dance/club sensation, Lady Ga Ga, when compared to diva of divas, Ms. Grace Jones, said that it's a honor to be compared to such greatness, as for Lady Ga Ga, being famous, she answered, "I've always been famous, its only now that everyone is finding out". Talk about being fierce, its priceless.

So they said it wouldn't last and they were right, super entertainer, Usher has filed for divorce and I'm sure the soon to be ex, will have no problems financially and mmm if it the price isn't right, I'm sure girlfriend will tell it all. Now you have something to chit chat about.

Ask Omar

    By Omar

Dear Omar
My lover and I have been together for about 7 years, and recently have stopped having sex, yet he doesn't want to break it off. I'm not so sure what I want to do. We still love each other but we are no longer in love. Is this normal for long term relationships? Should I hang in there? LA

Dear LA
Sounds like its just a case of the seven year itch, what I think you should do is talk with your man and find out is he just not sexual or if he's just doesn't want to be with you if it's the latter then you set a date to seduce your man.

You arrange for you both to get out of work early one day and you slip on the new pair of see through panties you order online call the Chinese take out and have them deliver and you seduce your man.

You see passion and excitement doesn't just happen. You must work on it everyday you must flirt with each other let each other no how much they mean to you.

If you truly care for each other then you know that working on your relationship is done everyday.

Dear Omar
I am a much older gay male living with 2 younger roommates I have to follow behind them and fighting with them about keeping up on bills and keeping the house clean.

We all moved in together because of our own current financial situations, but I'm paying all the bills trying to keep things going then I am waiting on them for their half of the rent, as if I have nothing better to do with my own money what should I do? HELP!

Dear HELP
Sounds to me like you in a your in a bit of a situation, You need to sit down with your roommates an explain that rent and house hold bills are due a the 1st. Of the month if your roommates are looking for some one to take care of then they either need to find a sugar daddy or go back to their Mamas and Daddy's. And that you aren't doing it then make sure you stop.

Dear Omar
I am a 36-year-old gay male that works at the airport and I made friends with a young lady there that I now find out has been saying things about me to other people, things I may have told her in private should I confront her about it or let it pass? What-do-I-do

Dear What-do-I-do
This is a tuff one and will take some fiancé, because the whole situation sound bad. 1st off you never share anything you want repeated and second because people talk women/men people talk. 2nd what did you share and how it will effect you if people know about it, is it something new that has just effected you or is it something that time has now healed. Don't get me wrong not wanting people to know something very private and personal is still a very scary thing but when you analyzer how much something affects you based on time and how much you have moved on from it.

Will help determine how to deal with the situation should it present itself. And last but not least how do you confront her about gossip there are a few ways you can go about it, but I like the direct approach simply ask her and based on her answer you'll know what you need to know. But however you choose to do it be professional always.

Chris Brown on Larry King

By Girl Born Blue
Correspondent

Larry King and Hip Hop don't go together but since Chris Brown were goin to be on the King show; I thought I'd check the sh*t out.

Chris there with his mom's and attorney. Chris was dressed in a powder blue outfit, powder blue bow, looking sorry, remorseful, looking like a church boy. But for the whole hour when Mr. King asked how he felt, why did he beat down Rihanna, Chris answered with, "I don't want to talk about it, out of respect for Rihanna." Say what?

Then why the hell did you go out the show?! Throughout the interview, it was said that he grew up around domestic violence. He even said that it was the first time that he'd hit Rihanna, but Mr. King had court papers claiming this was the third time that he'd hit her. When questioned by Mr. King, he couldn't remember. Don't they say tha on court shows, when ya guilty?

Well now he has to stay away from Rihanna for that next five years. He also has to do some community work. Mr. King, again, asked, "What did you say to Rihanna when you spoke to her? Did you say that you were sorry?" Mr. Brown's answer was the same, "out of respect for Rihanna………" Bullsh*t, Chris, what was the point of even going to the Larry King show?

During the interview, Brown said that he's still a kid, he doesn't know what it feels like to be an adult. Then he shouldn't do adult things. I threw up my hands, all Chris CD's in the garbage.

I aint hatin, but keep it real. If you got a little "Ike Turner", "Joe Jackson" in you, call it what it is and get some damn help.

We don't have the complete Chris and Rihanna story, but I wont be surprised that after the five year break, the two of them will probably get married. If this happens, you can say that Girl Born Blue told you that. I keeps it real.
